Meet Genny, one of MMG’s talented storytellers!

Meet Genny! She’s been working with us to tell stories for several months, and we’re grateful to have her on our team. She’s definitely a talented writer, but read on to find out about another special skill she used to create something over a foot taller than her!

What kind of stories speak to you most?

All of the stories that I get the unique privilege of telling are so powerful. Most of the nonprofits in Gwinnett County seem to give people a chance at a redeemed story. Whether it’s Home Repairs coming into a broken environment and giving people a chance to live and thrive in their homes, or Home of Hope giving mommas and their children an opportunity for a brighter future than the vicious cycle of hurt — each story could be summed up in one word: redemption. I love the stories that depict changed lives and loved hearts!

What’s your favorite part of your role at MMG?

I absolutely love this opportunity to see how God is moving and working in a different part of the world. These true stories remind me that the same God who is working in my life in Alaska is also doing an amazing work in Georgia, and everywhere in between. I feel so connected to this community whom I have never met. Each story I write makes me want to jump on the next plane to Atlanta so I can see firsthand the support system of this community!

What are some things that make your heart happy?

I love doing anything that gets my hands dirty — whether in the kitchen, garden or barn. I’ve jumped on the sourdough bandwagon, though I would fit in more with Ma Ingalls’ way of doing things than all of the science that goes into making the beautiful bread of today! I love trying to make new things. Right now I am into tallow balms, soap making and other ways to enjoy a more natural lifestyle. I’m also up for an adventure, and I love to explore the beauty of God’s creation — at my own pace. 😉

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

I would actually rather go back in time, or magically find myself at Green Gables! However, I would also love to explore the rich history in the Eastern Hemisphere: Israel, Egypt, Italy, Greece and anywhere in between.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I love to crochet, but I can never make anything on a small or simple scale. The largest thing I made was a 7-foot-long dragon named Charlie. It took me 9 long months to make him, so he was basically my child! Unfortunately, I no longer have Charlie, as I made him to sell at the request of a friend. I never want to make another one, but it was fun to watch him come together!
