Starting as an intern with Magnolia Media Group during college over four years ago, Digital Media Storyteller Brooke has never left! Read on to find out more about her.
What kind of stories speak to you most?
Somehow, I’m often surprised by how deeply people feel. I’ve found myself empathizing and celebrating with people entirely different than me, thanks to my position with MMG. I can’t tell you the number of times I was nervous to give someone a call and the conversation ended up being a bright spot in my week!
My favorite stories remind me of the humanness of others: the passions, struggles, goals, achievements, and memories that make up who they are and what they want to share with the world.
What’s your favorite part of your role at MMG?
There are a lot of great parts: interacting with different kinds of people, enjoying flexibility and creativity in my day, working with coworkers and a boss I truly like, and supporting great causes through my efforts. But practically speaking, I enjoy writing! I’m a creator at heart, and getting to craft a story that had never existed (in writing, on video, etc.) before is rewarding to me.
What are some things that make your heart happy (hobbies, pets, favorite foods, etc.)?
Spending time with family and core friends; babying our two dogs; tending to my plants (18 and counting); singing, both on and off stage; listening to music, especially on physical media; cooking and eating great food; antique shopping; walking in parks, especially when the sun is shining and breeze is blowing; reading fiction and poetry; creating art and showing it locally; and dressing in fun secondhand and vintage clothing.
What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
When I was 16, I auditioned for the “farewell” season of American Idol. (No, I didn’t make it far enough to meet any of the judges.) It was a really interesting experience! While I haven’t auditioned for any other singing shows, I’ve enjoyed leading worship in church for around ten years and with Georgia Worship Choir for the last year.
If you won the lottery today, what would you spend it on?
As for actual spending, I’d take some amazing national and international trips – hello, Europe, California, and New Zealand!
